Rotherhithe is an area with a long and illustrious history, once a village on the edge of the huge metropolis it has been swallowed up by the capital. This said, it still retains an independent identity and a pride in the people of the borough. This simple yet moving monument remembers the many brave young men of the village who went off to war to fight for freedom and democracy in the great wars of the 20th Century, many of whom gave their lives for the cause.
