This British multi-disciplinary society was founded in 1754 by William Shipley as an organisation designed to help further the interest and development of the arts. The organisation has grown and throughout the centuries and has included some great patrons from the royal family and in more modern times the world of business. The building that the society is housed in is an architectural masterpiece designed by prominent architect James Adam. The society welcomes visitors who have a professional or touristic interest in the arts.
