Samuel Phelps was one of the most important English actors of the 19th Century. He was born in Devonport but moved to London to peruse a career in the theatre that led him to living in this fine house at the heart of Islington. Phelps' influence on British acting cannot be underplayed and he is still a well respect name in the business.
