Sir George Alexander chose to live in Knightsbridge because it was close to ’theatre land’ in London’s west end, but far enough away from the bright lights so that he could relax when he wasn’t at work. His distinguished career as an actor on stage and a theatre manager has left him remembered as one of the true greats of British theatre. He invested a great deal of his own time and money into improving working conditions for actors in the London theatre scene.
