The story of this wonderful church is closely related to the grand mansion house on the edge of Clapham Common, next door to the church. It was purchased by the Vicar of Battersea and turned into a school in the 19th Century and it was at this time that he decided the Wandsworth side of the Common deserved a church, and so it was built and opened to the first worshippers in 1898. The magnificent building towers above the leafy streets that surround it and is a local landmark for those using the common.
