The terrorist explosion in Bishopsgate of 1993 was just a few yards away from Saint Ethelburga’s Church. A man was killed in the incident, and many tens more injured. It was thought that the devastation caused by the blast would mean this historic church had to be destroyed. However, a charitable trust was established to restore the building, and to establish an international centre for peace and reconciliation, to counter the violence of that day.
