St George’s Church is the parish church of Bloomsbury, and is one of the most grand and beautiful buildings in the area. The building was designed by the famous architect Nicholas Hawksmoor, and was completed in 1730. The church has many outstanding architectural features, including the portico based on the Temple of Baalbek in the Lebanon. The church has had many famous visitors, including Anthony Trollope, who was baptised here in 1824. The church is still very busy and has many visitors, both for services and to view the architecture.
