This theatre was part of a W.G.R Sprague ‘pair’ of theatres, the other being the New Ambassadors Theatre next door. The theatre was designed in 1913 but was not completed until 1916, due to the start of the First World War. The theatre is noted for its polished wood interior, which is the only one of its kind within the West End. However, the theatre is perhaps best known for having the longest running show ever in any London theatre. The Mousetrap at the New Ambassadors over fifty years ago, and came to St Martin’s in 1974 where it still runs today.
