This church started life as a teacher’s college in 1905 and it wasn’t until the late Pope Pius X was canonised in 1955 that it changed name. It had originally been dedicated to Madeline Sophie Barat, founder of the Sacred Heart Sisters, and her likeness can still be seen in the delightful stained glass windows. The parish organises annual trips to Lourdes at Easter and runs a soup kitchen for the homeless in the attached community hall. Next door is the Sion Manning Roman Catholic School for girls.
