Field Marshall Sir Alan Brooke was a career soldier and one of the most important figures in the military campaigns of the Second World War. Brooke worked closely with Winston Churchill as his chief military advisor on tactics both defensively and attacking. Brooke was Chief of Staff of the Home Defence Unit of the army, planning contingency procedures if the German army managed to launch a successful amphibious invasion of Britain.
