This statue is one of only two public pieces featuring King George II in the whole of London. It is a fine piece and stands at the centre of the historic Golden Square. A sculptor does not sign the statue and it is not known exactly how old the piece is, but it is an impressive and well-loved part Soho. It is thought that the statue was made to commemorate George II because he was the last British monarch to directly lead his troops onto battle in war.
