This ancient statue of the 'boy king' was fixed above the original gates of the hospital until 1862. Edward VI was the original re-founder of the hospital that has had a place of healing on this site for over five hundred years. Edward VI although a young man, was a sickly man and needed the help of many doctors throughout his short life and perhaps this is why he has always been so closely associated with this place.
