William Booth is one of the most famous names in the history of religion in this country. He established the Salvation Army in a response to great squalor he saw on the streets of London, especially in the east end where he lived and worked. His great vision to help these people and also instil Christian values into them and others has been carried on by a loyal band of members throughout the 20th Century into the new millennium. This statue stands close to Denmark Hill Station.
