Ralph Sadlier, a rising star in the court of Henry VIII, built a unique survival in London’s East End, Sutton House in 1535 (when Hackney was a rural village). Although altered over the years, it remains an essentially Tudor house with oak-panelled rooms and carved fireplaces. Discover the history of the house and its occupants, varying from Huguenot silk-weavers to Edwardian clergy, spanning 500 years in the exhibition rooms. The Brick Place Café is well worth a visit to sample the home made refreshments.
