The Avenue is the main artery of Regent's Park and has been since it was created over 200 years ago. The idea of The Avenue was to provide a major thoroughfare for the park so that people would use the area to get across London, but in doing so would also be able to get a taste of all of the best parts of the park. This is by far the best road to take if you are looking to explore Regent's Park for the first time and you don't have a great deal of time. You pass flower beds, statues, shrubs, trees, sports fields and lakes on the walk from Great Portland Street to London Zoo.
