Built in 1763, this building has a colourful history, first housing in 1765 Lord Shelburne who was Foreign Secretary in the Chatham Administration and who later went on to become Prime Minister. Gordon Selfridge, the department store magnate, was the next resident. With his tenants, the Hungarian Cabaret Artistes known as ‘The Dolly Sisters’, the house became famous for its dancing parties. The Bruton Club then took up residency in 1929, to be followed in 1935 by its current occupant, The Lansdowne Club.
