Frank Matcham constructed this magnificent grade II listed building in 1900. The commission came from Edward Moss who required a venue for inner city circus and variety performances. The original building housed large water tanks for aquatic spectaculars, but in 1909 Matcham redesigned the interior as a 1340 seated music hall and theatre. Throughout the twentieth century the venue became synonymous with comic theatre and musical events before its closure in 1982. Renovated once more the building has housed a nightclub for the last twenty years.
