Thomas Gainsborough is most associated with Suffolk in East Anglia where he spent a great deal of his life and where he painted the majority of his pastoral scenes for which he became famous. However, Gainsborough enjoyed a city life too and lived in this wonderful house at the heart of the capital, surrounded by gentlemen's clubs and the great and the good.
