This enormous swimming pool complex measure 90 metres by 30 metres and is thought to be the largest open air swimming pool in Europe. Opened in 1906 as Tooting Bathing Lake the Lido was designed as a project for the local unemployed to build. Until 1931 there was a strict segregation of sexes, men bathing on different days to women. In 1936 a café was introduced and the lido as it is known today emerged. Surrounded by fir trees and wooden changing sheds the pool maintains an old fashioned charm and remains an oasis for Londoners on a hot summer’s day.
