Opened in 1862, Victoria Station was a symbol of the great industrial expansion of the country, an icon of the steam age and a direct project of the Great Exhibition. The station was designed by Alfred Bloomfield, a renowned architect and great designer of his age. It combines renaissance and baroque elements to create one of the most interesting of the main line London termini. The station is the gateway to southern England from London.
