I was born in a street long gone Oak Street and used to play in Walpole Park. There used to be a concrete seat with a face in the middle of the back near a fish pond, and we often used to put lipstick on its lips. I did a lot of my courting in the Rose Gardens and I also sat there reading enjoying the heady perfume of the roses. I remember the film MANDY being made by the bigger pond. I haven't been back for many years but I have very fond memories of the place.
