Julian Tolme designed this unusual river crossing which is noteworthy because of its lattice work decoration on either side. The bridge was originally commissioned in 1864, but it wasn’t until nearly ten years later that construction began on the structure that links Fulham on the north bank of the Thames with Wandsworth on the south. There was once a toll levied on the bridge but this was removed when the structure was acquired by the London Authority and made into a public thoroughfare.
