Waterloo Bridge is located between Blackfriars Bridge and Hungerford Bridge, and is used as both a footbridge and a road bridge. The original structure was designed by John Rennie and opened in 1817, but over the next 100 years the bridge was shown to have some serious construction flaws, and the bridge was demolished. A new bridge was commissioned and a design by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott was chosen. The new structure was originally opened in 1942, but was damaged by bombs in World War II, and finally opened properly in 1945.
