Waterloo Station is one of the major railway interchanges in central London and certainly the largest south of the River Thames. The station is named after the Battle of Waterloo near Brussels which resulted in a victory for the English over the French. Many French politicians have asked that the station be renamed because it is insensitive to French tourists. The station has a long and interesting history starting in the early 1860's. The architecture is rich and varied due to the slow expansion of the terminus over a hundred and fifty years. The station clock is featured in many films and popular songs.
