Westminster Cathedral is the headquarters of the Catholic Church in Britain. It was designed in the early Christian style and the first foundation stone was laid in 1895. Its very distinctively stripped red-brick and white stone tower emerges prominently in the west London Skyline. The interior is splendid and is partly made of marble and mosaic work and partly made of bare bricks. Its very quiet atmosphere makes it a cherished haven from the booming traffic of Victoria Street. A lot of musical concerts are held during the months of June through to September.
