This house was once the home of William Bligh an accomplished seaman, most famous of course for his role as captain of The Bounty. Bligh was the victim of a mutiny aboard the ship which was sailing from Tahiti back to England after a routine bread fruit collection voyage. Fletcher Christian took the boat and he and a band of men escaped the long arm of British law by starting a new society on Pitcairn Island in the South Pacific, where there descendants still remain today.
