Woolwich has long been associated with Britain's military past. It is home to Woolwich Dockyard, founded in 1512, the Royal Arsenal, the Royal Military Academy and the Royal Horse Artillery. Greenwich Heritage Centre has exhibits relating to the Royal Arsenal. Woolwich was the original home of the Arsenal Football Club, founded in 1886.
