The airfield was once known as RAF Llandwrog and during the Second World War was home to the Bomber Command where gunners, radio operators and navigators were trained before being sent on their missions. At this time the Mountain Rescue Team was formed by Flight Lieutenant Graham and is an essential service still in operation in this mountainous region today. The control tower now has a viewing platform and Dakota Restaurant and Café where you can watch visiting aircraft and the flying school perform their manoeuvres.
