Carmel Head is a beautiful, remote headland in north-west Anglesey. Many ships have wrecked on its underwater rocks and off-shore small islands. Two beacons known as the White Ladies act as navigational aids for ships. Two young boys were rescued from a foreign wreck near Carmel Head in 1745. Nobody ever discovered their nationality, but one boy became an accomplished bone-setter, and his descendant Hugh Owen Thomas devised the Thomas Splint. The car park on the west side of Cemlyn Bay is a good starting point for a walk to Carmel Head.
