Cemlyn Nature Reserve is known for its four species of tern which visit each year to breed on islands in a brackish lagoon behind a shingle ridge. It has the largest colony of sandwich terns in Wales. Other birds breed here and large numbers of wildfowl may be seen in the winter. In the breeding season visitors are asked to keep to the seaward side of the shingle ridge. There are car parks at the eastern and western sides of Cemlyn Bay, both good starting points for coastal walks.
