Saint Tysilio, son of a king of Powys, came to Anglesey about 630 AD and founded his church on a small island in the Menai Strait. The present church was built in the early 15th Century and retains some original features. Steps in the churchyard go up to the war memorial, from where there are good views of the Menai Strait and Britannia Bridge. From the Coed Cyrnol car park, off the A5, a woodland path descends to a causeway linking the island with the mainland of Anglesey.
