Cnicht is known as the Matterhorn of Wales because of its elegant, pointed cone shape when seen from Porthmadog. It is a popular climb, needing a little scrambling along its narrow ridge, and most walkers start from the little village of Croesor that lies between Beddgelert and Penrhyndeudraeth. From the 2265 feet summit are spectacular views of Snowdon, the Moelwyn mountains and Tremadog Bay. A circular walk can be taken by returning via Llyn yr Adar, Rhosydd, and Cwm Croesor.
