Dinas Bran Castle is a romantic ruin occupying the summit of a steep hill above Llangollen and the Dee Valley. Built about 1260 by Gruffudd ap Madoc on the site of an Iron Age hillfort, it was deliberately burnt and abandoned in 1277 by the Welsh garrison to prevent use by Edward I`s English army. According to legend, this is one of the places where King Arthur may have hidden the Holy Grail. A path to the summit, which offers glorious views, starts near the canal in Llangollen.
