Dinas Emrys is a small, rocky hill lying to the east of Beddgelert village. According to legend, it is the site of a 5th Century fortress built by Vortigern. It is also associated with the fights of red and white dragons as well as Merlin who is said to have buried treasure here. When the site was excavated in the 1950s, some 5th Century pottery was found. Ramparts and the foundations of a tower remain at the highest point of the hill.
