On the upland plateau above Penmaenmawr stands an impressive Bronze Age monument known as the Druid`s Circle. It became famous in the 18th Century after being sketched by travellers crossing the moorland in their horse-drawn coaches. Several other ancient monuments are nearby, and it is thought the circle was used for rituals as excavations found three pits in the centre containing the cremated bones of children. The Welsh name for the monument is Meini Hirion, meaning long stones. There is a footpath from Penmaenmawr to the circle.
