The Ffestiniog Railway was built in 1836 to carry slates from the mines down to the harbour at Porthmadog and claims to be the oldest railway company in the world. Today, it’s narrow gauge engines transport passengers through beautiful Snowdonia scenery up to Blaenau Ffestiniog and Llechwedd Slate Caverns. Drinks are served on board during the trip and toilets are available on the train. Passengers can choose to ride on the railway or buy combined tickets for tours of the Slate Caverns.
