The huge ramparts of an Iron Age hill fort crown the summit of Foel Fenlli, a heather covered hill in the Clwydian range. Double ramparts with banks over twenty feet high defend the fort on its north and east sides. On a clear day, the hill offers stunning views across the Vale of Clwyd, stretching to the Berwyn and Snowdonia mountains. The shortest route to the summit is by climbing a steep, zigzag path which starts from the car park at Bwlch Penbarras, a pass on a minor road between Ruthin and Mold.
