The Llanberis Lake Railway is a delightful, little railway line that runs beside Padarn Lake, offering great views of Snowdonia`s mountains. Originally built in the 19th century to transport slate from the nearby quarries to Port Dinorwic, it closed in the 1960s because there was little demand for slate. A new company reconstructed the line, and small steam engines that worked in the slate quarries usually haul the train on its one hour return trip. A break for a shoreside picnic can be taken at Cei Llydan on the return journey.
