Founded by St Trillo, there has been a church on this site since the 6th Century. From its tower – also known as ‘The Rector’s Chair’ – flares were once lit to warn that enemy ships had been sighted off the coast. Later, the church was white washed to serve as a landmark for ships at sea. Its picturesque location is the final resting-place of former Titanic hero – Officer Harold Lowe. Played by Ioan Gryffud in the film ‘Titanic’, Harold helped search for survivors in the aftermath of the great disaster.
