According to an old rhyme there are `Seven Wonders of Wales`and Llangollen Bridge spanning the River Dee is one of them. Few visitors crossing the bridge can resist stopping at one of the recesses to admire the river and views, or to watch the canoeists manoeuvre the rapids. John Trefor, the Bishop of St Asaph, founded the bridge in 1345 on the site of a ford. It has been restored several times and another arch for the railway to pass underneath was added in 1863.
