Motorists leaving the A5 at Capel Curig have their first view of Snowdon when they reach the twin lakes called Llynnau Mymbyr, and few can resist stopping at the lay-by to savour the view, or to take photographs. Only in very dry summers are the two lakes separate. Nearby is the Plas y Brenin Mountain Centre, which was once a staging post for Shrewsbury to Holyhead mail coaches. Canoeists from the centre may be seen on the lakes.
