Near Barclay`s Bank in St Peter`s Square is a large limestone boulder known as Maen Huail, where King Arthur is said to have beheaded a rival. According to legend, Huail fought King Arthur over a woman. Both were wounded, but King Arthur was left with a permanent limp. It was several years before they met again and, when they did, they fought over the same lady. King Arthur threw his opponent onto this boulder, then cut off Huail`s head with his sword.
