Mary Jones Cottage
Llanfihangel-y-pennant, Near Tywyn, Gwynedd - Wales, UK

Map
Mary Jones of Llanfihangel-y-pennant is famous in Wales as in the year 1800, at the age of 15, she walked barefoot to Bala to buy a Bible off a Mr Thomas Charles. It took Mary six years to save the purchase price of three shillings and sixpence. Mr Charles was so impressed by her fortitude that he gave Mary three Bibles for the price of one. Realising there was a need for more Bibles, he persuaded the Religious Tract Society to form the British and Foreign Bible Society. Only the foundations remain of the cottage where Mary lived as a child.
