The bold, rocky hill of Moel-y-Gest overlooks Porthmadog and Tremadog Bay. Although only 858 feet above sea level, it is mountainous in character, and some minor scrambling is necessary to reach the top. Two summits, eastern and western, are connected by a ridge that offers splendid coast and mountain views. An unexcavated hill fort occupies the western peak. A footpath to the eastern summit leaves the A497 in Porthmadog, alternatively, a fine circular walk of the two summits can be started in Borth-y-Gest.
