The Mynydd Hiraethog is a wild, beautiful moorland landscape lying between the Snowdonia National Park and the Vale of Clwyd. Part of the moor, consisting of heather and bog, is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The eastern part of the moor contains reservoirs and coniferous forest which is a habitat for red squirrels. It is also a good area for birdwatching. There is a visitor centre and some waymarked walks as well as a long, linear trail between some of the villages surrounding the moor.
