Steeped in legend, Nant Gwrtheyrn is a beautiful, remote valley enclosed by the steep slopes of Yr Eifl. Fishermen, farmers and granite quarry workers once lived there, but by the 1960s the valley was deserted. Restoration began in 1978 and the village is now a National Language Centre for the teaching of Welsh. Apart from the residential courses, the valley is a fascinating place to visit for a few hours. There are exhibitions, a restaurant, walks, a secluded beach and interesting wildlife.
