Built in 1636, Pont Fawr is a picturesque bridge attributed to the famous architect Inigo Jones. The sixty yard long bridge has three arches and the road is thirteen feet wide. The central arch collapsed soon after opening, and this was blamed on the excessive amount of mead drunk by the workmen. When they rebuilt it, the men were restricted to drinking nothing stronger than buttermilk. For some time afterwards it was known as the `Buttermilk Bridge`. There are car parks nearby, and pleasant riverside walks.
