Towering 126 feet above the River Dee, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is the highest aqueduct in Britain and a walk along its 1007 feet long towpath is an unforgettable experience for those with a head for heights. The work of engineers Thomas Telford and William Jessop, it was completed in 1805 as part of a plan to link the River Severn at Shrewsbury with the Dee at Chester. There is a car park at the Trevor end of the aqueduct, whilst canal boat trips across the aqueduct can be taken from Llangollen Wharf.
