Near the coastal path at Moelfre is the impressive statue of Richard Evans who earned two gold medals as coxswain of Moelfre lifeboat. His most dramatic rescue was that of the Hindlea in October 1959, and he received his second RNLI medal for his part in the rescue of the Nafsiporos in 1966. Richard (Dic) Evans died at the age of 96 in 2001. Made by sculptor Sam Holland, the bronze statue is seven feet high and stands on a granite boulder. It was unveiled by Prince Charles on the 23rd November 2004.
