The highest mountain in England and Wales can be climbed by taking the only rack and pinion railway in the British Isles to within a few feet of its 3560 feet summit. This little single track railway has carried tourists from Llanberis to the top of Snowdon since the 1890s. On fine, clear days the views are spectacular. Trains do not operate in winter, and only go halfway up the mountain in early spring. Single tickets are available for those who want to walk down the mountain.
